The Invisible Edge: Solving Signature Management with Ametrine

How Brigantes and Ametrine are delivering multispectral stealth to the wider Field Army.

In the modern battlespace, "looking" like your surroundings is no longer enough. While traditional camouflage was designed to defeat the human eye, the proliferation of advanced sensors—thermal imagers, Near-Infrared (NIR), and Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR)—means that a soldier can be perfectly hidden to the eye but glowing like a beacon on a thermal screen.

At Brigantes, we recognise that Signature Management (SigMan) is the new frontier of survivability. To address this, we have partnered with Ametrine, whose multispectral technology is fundamentally changing how UK forces remain undetected.

The Problem: The "Thermal Leak"

Standard military uniforms are often treated with NIR reflectants, but they fail to account for the heat emitted by the human body.

The "Glow" Effect: Even in thick brush, the thermal contrast between a 37°C soldier and a 10°C environment is a massive giveaway for modern ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) drones.

Static vs. Mobile: Most camouflage nets work when you're stationary, but as soon as a soldier moves, their signature becomes dynamic and easy to track.

The Weight of Secrecy: Previous multispectral solutions were heavy, non-breathable, and essentially "plastic bags" that caused troops to overheat, trading thermal stealth for heat exhaustion.

The Ametrine Solution: "Blend, Don't Block"

Ametrine's approach, delivered through Brigantes, moves away from simply "blocking" heat. Instead, their technology focuses on Multispectral Signature Management (MSSM).

1. Multispectral Mastery

Ametrine products don't just hide you in one band. They provide simultaneous concealment across Visual (advanced patterns for the human eye), NIR/SWIR (defeating night vision and digital sensors), and MWIR/LWIR (managing the thermal heat signature).

2. The Science of Silver

One of the breakthroughs in Ametrine's personnel systems is the integration of specialised metallic layers (including silver) into the fabric. This allows the garment to disperse body heat more evenly and reflect the ambient temperature of the environment. The result? The soldier's thermal signature mimics the trees or rocks behind them, rather than a human shape.

3. Breathability and Durability

Unlike legacy thermal "space blankets," Ametrine's materials are breathable and durable. This is critical for the UK soldier. Whether yomping across Dartmoor or operating in the High North, the kit allows for moisture vapour to escape, preventing the "moisture trap" issues we discussed in cold weather layering, while maintaining stealth.

Paving the Way: Integration and Contracts

The true value of Ametrine gear lies in its availability. By working with Brigantes, these advanced systems are being integrated into the official procurement channels.

On-Contract Readiness: By moving Ametrine products onto formal MOD contracts, we ensure that units can procure multispectral suits and equipment hides through the standard supply chain. This ensures that signature management isn't just for Tier 1 specialists, but a scalable capability for the wider Field Army. With NATO-codified stock, UK forces can be equipped with the world's most advanced concealment tech in days, not months.

The New Standard of Stealth

The era of "just wearing green" is over. In a world of persistent sensor threats, if you can be seen, you can be targeted.

Through the partnership of Brigantes and Ametrine, we are providing the UK military with a "digital cloak"—ensuring that our troops own the night, the thermal spectrum, and the battlefield.

Unseen. Protected. Operational.
